In 1805 the ancient Habsburg possession of Tyrol was given to Bavaria by Napoleon as a reward for faithful service rendered. Unfortunately, no one asked the Tyroleans whether they wanted to get traded off to folks they didn't particularly care for. As a result the famous insurrection led by Andreas Hofer took place and Napoleon was forced to send French troops to help his Bavarian allies take possession.
