Preliminaries for the Peace of Amiens

No. 514 said:	Oval shield in the form of the British flag mounted on crossed swords in the centre of a semi-circular legend. PRELIMINARIES OF PEACE / BETWEEN / GREAT BRITAIN AND FRANCE / SIGNED / OCTOBER 1st 1801

Rev.	Peace standing on a quay holding an olive branch and emptying a cornucopia, bales at her side, ships at sea. THEY SHALL PROSPER THAT LOVE THEE Ears of corn in exergue.

British merchants were champing at the bit for the opportunity to trade openly on the continent again. On the reverse you can clearly see that the barrel is labeled to go "TO FRANCE".

There's a second, worn, copper version of this medal on-site as well but the detail is not as easy to see.

Derrière, un ballot de marchandises et un baril portant l'inscription: TO FRANCE. Dans le fond, des navires, dont deux sous voiles.
En bas: SIGNED OCTOBER 1st 1801.	A l'exergue, des épis de blé.
