* The abbreviations are for Son altesse serenissime. The Medal is engraved in Tresor Numis. Nap. pl. 14, fig. 3, and in Theory, Annals, pl. IV, No. 15.
 
   The description above comes from a rare book on Freemason's medals. The author listed the medals size in sixteenths of an inch. So the above was 1 5/16". Marvin CLXXXIII.
   This medal is a post-1880 restrike. From the patina I would judge it to date from 1880-1890, and certainly no later than 1910. That of course is a guess based on experience and it could certainly date as late as the 1950s when the Mint began putting the year on the edge as well.
