OLIVIER DE SERRES, N . (né) EN 1539, M. (mort) 2 J^T. (Juillet) 1619. (Olivier de Serres, born 1539, died July 22nd, 1619). Bust to the right. Beneath: DROZ F. (fecit). M.DCCCVII.

R: Within a laurel crown, in the middle of the field: SOCIÉTÉ D'AGRICULTURE DU DÉPARTEMENT DE LA SEINE. (Agricultural Society of the Department of the Seine). Above this inscription, a bee; beneath it, the date 18 07 divided by a sheaf of corn. [30".]

OLIVIER DE SERRES, Lord of Pradel, was born at Villeneuve-de-Berg, in the Vivarais, in 1539. In 1600 he published his Théâtre d'Agriculture, a worthy monument of a man who has been called the Patriarch of French agriculture. He died on the 2nd of July, 1619.
