Great Britain - 1794

½ Penny

(D & H 393 - Middlesex, Newgate)
Obverse - Great Britain - 1/2 Penny - 1794 Reverse - Great Britain - 1/2 Penny - 1794
Obverse - Newgate Prison
Legend - NEWGATE
Exergue - MDCCXCIV
Reverse - PAYABLE AT THE RESIDENCE OF MESSRS. SYMONDS WINTERBOTHAM RIDGWAY & HOLT

The legend on the reverse is satire of course, the gentlemen mentioned were incarcerated within the prison. I don't have any details on these guys yet but knowing the times they were probably imprisoned for criticizing the government, a crime that translated into charges of high treason.
