Fetes du Couronnement

Obverse -	The heads of Napoleon and Josephine combined, the former encircled with a laurel wreath, and Josephine with a diadem, as worn by the Queens of France.
Legend,	NAPOLEON JOSEPHINE
Exergue,	BRENET.

Reverse -	the French eagle crowned with a laurel wreath, seated on branches of oak and laurel placed amongst loose blocks of stone, on one of which, the artist's name, BRENET, appears.
Legend,	FIXA PERENNIS IN ALTO SEDES.
Exergue,	FETES DU COURONNEMENT DONNÉES A L'HOTEL DE VILLE AN XIII.

Size, 1 3/8 inches.

Laskey's Narrative:

This medal was also struck to perpetuate the event described in the preceding medal.

This appears to be an original white metal example struck with the normal artificial patina added to it. While unlisted they show up often enough for me to believe it was a fairly common practise by the mint, though perhaps not admitted to.

R. FIXA PERENNIS IN ALTO SEDES. (His seat is fixed for ever at the summit.) An eagle on the top of a mountain crowned with laurel, and holding laurel-branches in his talons. Exergue: FETES DU .COURONNEMENT DONNEES A L'HOTEL DE VILLE AN XIII. (Festivals of the coronation given at the Hotel de Ville, year XIII.). On a stone, to the right, above the exergue: BRENET. [34"]
