A horrible filler coin, with a slightly better example also onsite. The Subalpine Republic was the successor to the Piedmont Republic with a gap of about a year when the area reverted to Austrian and Russian control.
The book I use as a reference for these little republics (Répertoire des Monnaies Napoléonides, 1971) says that good examples of this coin are extremely rare. It also points out that the coin refers to the Piemontese Republic instead of the Subalpine Republic.
This republic was another short-lived one, existing from June, 1800 to September, 1802. They produced three type coins of which this is one.
