Le Tombeau de Desaix

Obverse -	represents the tomb erected to the memory of General Desaix, the bas relief represents the General fallen from his horse to the ground mortally wounded.
Legend,	NAPOLEON AUX MANES DE DESAIX. On the plinth several allegorical ornaments emblematic of his wisdom, foresight and prudence. BRENET F. DENON D. The names of the artist and director appear on the base of the tomb.
Exergue,	I^ERE. PIERRE POSÉE PAR L'EMPEREUR LE XXIV PRAIRI. AN XIII.

Reverse -

within a wreath composed of a laurel branch, and a branch of cypress or yew, encircling the field of the medal, is inscribed LE XXV. PRAIRIEL AN XIII . XIV . IUIN MDCCCV . NAPOLEON POSE LA I^ERE. PIERRE DU TOMBEAU DE DESAIX AU MONT S^T. BERNARD.

Une médaille composée des revers des deux médailles N^o 426 et 427, se trouve dans ma collection et est décrite dans le Trésor de numismatique, planche 8 N^o 5 et ailleurs. Comme nombre d'autres piéces de la même nature, je l'omets, parce que les médailles ainsi composées ne sont guère à considérer comme étant indépendantes. En tout cas leur description spéciale est superflue.

An interesting piece made by striking the reverses of two different medals. The English language descriptions are from Laskey's descriptions of the reverse of numbers 50 and 51 in his book.
