Unlike the other Salzburg piece from 1802, this one was passed from hand to hand and actually used as money. So, even though it's not as pretty by far, in some ways I find it much more interesting as I contemplate all the people who used it in commerce until it finally came to rest in a collection prior to mine. It's easy sometimes to forget that what I collect were intended, for the most part, as working parts of a complex multi-national economy.
