Vern's Comments:

This is the rare white metal variety.
Unfortunately in the past collectors thought that coating their coins and medals with lacquer would protect them. Instead it produced an astonishing array of colors, always ugly, depending on their formula of choice. This shade of gray is often encountered with white metal specimens.
