Vern's Comments:

In a rare error for this reference the date on the medal clearly says 11 August 1805. This example is in white metal.

The Gentlemen's Magazine for 1805 illustrates this medal and states that it was generally circulated in commemoration of the event. Some specimens were worn at the ceremony suspended from blue ribbons. The British Museum has an example in gold which was presented to George III.
