Joseph Hanson (I 781-1811 ), lived at Strangeway's Hall near Manchester; a champion of the cause for better working conditions for weavers and a supporter of the Luddites. He was sent to prison and fined on May 12th 1809. Some 39,600 people subscribed a penny each in support of his efforts.
