Following the successful storming of Badajoz, Wellington was able to direct his forces against the French threat to Cuidad Rodrigo, Almeida and Castelo Branco, the latter having been entered by Marshal Marmont on the 12th April. Castelo Branco was quickly regained by the Allies, however, since the French withdrew immediately Marmont learnt of the fall of Badajoz.
