Louis XVIII, standing facing forward, takes an oath of fidelity to a treaty unrolled before him on an altar where, below two clasped hands, the words PACI ORBIS are inscribed. To the right and left of the altar stand the sovereigns of England, Russia, Austria, and Prussia.

Vern's Comments:

This is another of a small collection I'm building of Louis XVIII medals dating from the first restoration. Almost all of them are absolutely beautiful, really works of art.

If you look carefully the I in "MAI" on the reverse is noticeably larger than the rest of the date. I'm really not certain why that is, it could just be a correction.

A droite et à gauche de l'autel se tiennent les souverains d'Angleterre, de Russie, d'Autriche et de Prusse. Exergue: XII. MAI. MDCCCXIV.
Médaille, 50 mm. - M. F. 421, 11.
Bien quo cette Médaille porte la date du XII Mai, elle a pour objet la paix de Paris du 30 Mai 1814.
