BONTÉ DE TITUS SAGESSE DE M. (Marc) AURELE GENIE DE CHARLESM (Charlemagne).(Goodness of Titus, wisdom of Marcus Aurelius, genius of Charlemagne.) Napoleon, crowned, and clad in grand imperial costume, borne upon a large shield by four helmeted warriors armed at all points. On the left, a cannon; on the right a hydra vomiting poniards. Exergue: AU NOM DU PLUS GRAND DES HÉROS FRÉMIT L'HYDRE BRITANNIQUE (At the name of the greatest of heroes the British hydra trembles). MERLEN F. (fecit).

R. Two laurel branches forming a crown. In the middle of the field this inscription: NAPOLEON BONAPARTE LE TRÈS GLORIEVX ET TRÈS AVGVSTE EMPEREVR FAIT SACRER ET OINDRE A PARIS PAR PIE VII SOVVERAIN PONTIFE. (Napoleon Bonaparte, the most glorious and august emperor, caused himself to be crowned and anointed at Paris by Pius VII., sovran pontiff). Beneath the crown: II. DECEMB.
