Vern's Comments:

This was often manufactured with the hole pre-drilled, apparently to make it easier to put on a string and hang around your child's neck. This example is in white metal although the dealer identified it as tin. More commonly you would find these in copper. There was a bewildering variety of variants. Dalton & Hamer listed this variant as scarce.
