SUDBURY Goldsmith & Son.
   Obverse :- Arms of the town of Sudbury. (Sable, a talbot sejant argent; on a chief gules, a lion passant gardant between two fleurs-de-lys or.) This tincture not shown on the token.
Crest : (On a wreath, a talbot's head erased gules [the tincture is not shown on token] between two ostrich feathers erect argent.)
Legend :- MAY THE TRADE OF SUDBURY FLOURISH with an ornamental stop.
   Reverse :- Inscription: PRO BONO PUBLICO 1793
Edge :- PAYABLE AT GOLDSMITH & SONS SUDBURY ·XXX·
Diesinker, Wyon; manufacturer, Kempson. Fifteen cwts. struck.
Common. Note the O in OF in the obverse legend is too large.

Comments. Goldsmith and Son were tailors and drapers in Sudbury.
   Sudbury is partly in Suffolk and partly in Essex, and was incorporated by Queen Elizabeth. The Arms and Crest were granted by Cooke, Clarencieux King of Arms, on the 20th September, 1596, as recorded on the original grant in the archives of the town.
   There are two trivial die variants, D&H 38, 39.
