Vern's Comments:

An interesting piece from the Fall of the Bastille. As you can see from the scan from Hennin below it originally had a loop at the top. Close examination of the piece confirms that there was a loop that has been removed in the past and an excellent job of smoothing the top.

Dans un cercle formé d'une guirlande de laurier est un lion placé sur un trophée de palmes, cuirasse, casque, tambour et drapeaux; il tient une épée surmontée du bonnet de la liberté, et un cartel sur lequel on lit: A L. GLOIRE D. FRANC. 14 JUILL. 1789 (A la gloire des Français 14 juillet 1789).

Dans une couronne de chêne: VIVRE LIBRE OU MOURIR. Pièce ayant une une belière [25^m.].

Cette pièce, relative à la prise de la Bastille, se rapporte à cette époque, et ne demande aucune explication.
