Napoleon, whole length, standing, his head encircled with a laurel wreath, full dress, richly embroidered, the imperial mantle over his shoulders; he is holding the infant with both hands in an elevated situation, as if about to plunge him in an elegant font below; on the top of the font is a Capenduncula, across which lies a branch of myrtle, also a small coffer or acerra, used for holding the incense, surmounte

   This medal, commemorative of the baptism of the infant son of the Emperor Napoleon and Maria Louisa, needs no farther elucidation here, but to state the number of cities and towns on the reverse, which amount to forty-nine, viz.-

Rev: Dans le champ: A L'EMPEREUR LES BONNES VILLES. DE L'EMPIRE. Autour du champ, 49 couronnes murales disposées circulairement sur deux rangs. Chacune porte le nom d'une ville de l'empire.
Exergue: BAPTEME DU ROI DE ROME M.DCCC.XI. Sur la barre de l'exergue: LAFITTE DEL.
En haut: PARIS, ROME et AMSTERDAM. Viennent ensuite les couronnes des autres 46 villes par ordre alphabétique.

Nel campo, al centro, Napoleone in abiti imperiali, a s., regge con la mani sollevate il Re di Roma; in basso, a d., trono ed a s., fonte battesimale, con ramo di ulivo ed in basso libro chiuso, verticale, con croce; in basso, a s., sopra il taglio della base: ANDRIEU FECIT. e nel taglio: LAFITTE DEL. Contorno a piatto e gola.
