Laskey:

The Austrians having been defeated in all their battles with Napoleon, the conqueror took possession of Vienna, and the other capitals of that kingdom, where he discovered the several flags and standards which had been taken from his own army and from those of former wars; these he sent with triumph, as part of the spoils, to Paris. To commemorate this epocha of his history, the government of France ordered this medal to be struck and distributed.
