Vern's Comments:

This beautiful medal commemorates the victory of Napoleon over the forces of Francis II of Austria. This is a medal that is collectable for both sides. The helmet is unusual for a bust of Napoleon, it being more common to show him with a victory laurel in his hair. Unlike the usual chocolate brown patina of a period medal this one had the patina harshly cleaned off. The reverse is unusual also in that it depicts what must have been a common event, the weeping of women over the armor of their dead men. All in all an extremely satisfying medal to have collected!

Remarkably, for something as carefully crafted as this medal, try to figure out the problem with the Roman numeral date on the reverse.
