What can you say about this marvelous medal? The whole period of the Revolution through the Empire looked back to the great heroes and heroines of France for inspiration. This may seem strange since we are used to looking at the exploits of the French Army of this time as the highlights of French martial efforts. To the people of the time however the lives of Jeanne D'Arc and Henri IV were the standards to be measured by.

   Pendant la fureur révolutionnaire, le monument élevé à Orléans en honneur de Jeanne d'Arc fut détruit, et la fête annuelle célébrée dans cette ville, le jour anniversaire de la levée du siége, fut abolie.

   Cette médaille consacre le rétablissement du monument, et de la fête annuelle, en 1803, par ordre du 1.er Consul.
