This is how you take a $900 coin and turn it into $75 jewelry; make jewery out of it!

Looking at the two sides you will notice a slightly unusual die alignment as well. The color probably is the result of a coat or two of "Japan" black. It was a popular thing to slap on anything you owned even if it made the object ugly as sin. Such an unfortunate way to damage a nice coin.
