Holden' s Directory for 1809-11 lists 'J Barker, woollen draper and haberdasher' of London Lane. Samuel' s comments, echoed by Davis, that the issuer's name was Samuel, appears to have been a slip of a line confusion as the directory also lists S Barker, Wine and Brandy Merchant, as the next entry. The Norfolk Directory for 1822-23 gives : 'John Barker, Woollen Draper, London-lane'.
Sharp says that the dies were the work of P Wyon.
