℞ Similar, but the ends of the flags are straight. The portcullis consists of 3 vertical and 4 horizontal lines. The left edge of the central tower and the portcullis gradually fill and become very weak. There is a flaw on the left foot of the X of the date.

Samuel (followed by Davis) says that Newton's shop was in London Street. Holden's Directory for 1809-11, however, lists Francis Newton, Silversmith and Haberdasher, Cockey-lane - as does Underhill's directory for 1816-17. In the Norfolk Directory for 1822-23, he has two entries : Haberdasher and Hosier, Cockey-lane, and Silversmith and Jeweller, Cockey-lane.
Sharp et al. say that the dies for this token were engraved by T Wyon.
