In describing Jerome the author would seem to indicate that the accusations
about Napoleon and Lucien's father were perhaps exaggerated, since he
refers to him as the fifth son.
Mom was a prostitute; a notorious one at that. This must have come as
a surprise to the straitlaced and conservative Letitia...
Paulina... well, except for the comment about sleeping with her brother
and being a prostitute. Wait a minute, that's just about everything he
said!
The author has Paulina and Eliza reversed in birth order and Caroline
is the most wicked woman in existence! What a family, wouldn't you have
loved to hang out with these crazies?
Next we hear about Uncle Fesch (jacobin and swindler) and Eugene (tolerable
character) and finally we learn that "Fanny" (or Hortense as
history knows her) had a child by Napoleon.
