This medal refers in general terms to the defeat of Napoleon. The city of Paris was surrendered to the Allied on 31st March 1814. Carl Philipp, Prince of Schwarzenburg, was made Commander-in-Chief if the Continental Armies allied against France in 1813. Following the surrender of Paris and the deposition of Napoleon, Louis XVIII was recalled by the Senate and Legislature of France.
