Louis XVI - Fountain

Obverse - France - 1791 Reverse - France - 1791
Obverse - LOUIS XVI ROI DES FRANSAIS
Exergue, IETTON
Rev: OMNIBUS NON SIBI. A water fountain.
Exergue, *LAUER
Jeton, 24 mm.

This is a distant variant of Hennin 242. Almost none of this piece matches Hennin except the theme on each side. The obverse looks more like the busts that were produced after the King's death and this is the first of the Omnibus Non Sibi reverses that I've seen signed. It arguably could date as late as 1793 because of the obverse. Despite this there's nothing in Hennin that is closer than 242. It has the look of a hastily produced piece with the "N" of IETTON squeezed in as an after-thought.
